He's still recovering from being shot in the leg, and spends non-trivial amounts of money on detectives and bounty hunters trying to track down the attackers (it's become a matter of principle, 'cos it was kinda fishy and people who get away with that kind of lawlessness will do it again and ''somebody'' oughta do something about it).

Matt and his saloon are good for room and board at a discount (or free when he's feeling particularly avuncular), entertainment, hearing things and seeing people, maybe for tips on business or fighting and general worldly advice.
