Gregor's father had once been the proud leader of a hardy township of trappers and mountainfolk, high and apart on the side of mountains at the eastern edge of the kingdom. A decade more and Gregor might have rightly inherited a proper title, if a small one, his life one of responsibility and forethought. Such was not meant to be.
