Background

Mark Brown is a 19 year old, University of Freedom City sophomore, who was born and grew up in Hanover. His parents died two years ago in a car accident, but left Mark a large enough inheritance that he could continue going to school. He was more then a bit depressed about their deaths for a while, but he quickly decided that the best thing he could do was honor their request that he go to college, so he enrolled last year and quickly found that he really like psychics and has applied himself that that field whole-heartedly.  About a year ago he became friends with a girl online who called herself `J-PopGothGirl99' and over the next few months started falling for each other… even though they had never met in person. Oh sure they exchanged pictures of each other, and revealed their real names (hers was Yoko Tanaka) but she always said that she was to shy to meet him. It also seemed that while she was the same age at Mark, she had already graduated from collages (back in Tokyo) and was working at the Institute of Technology on some `huff-huff' project.

Then about a month ago, Yoko's email started becoming more infrequent, and those that did come were a bit paranoid, warning Mark about strangers following him, etc. She would not say what it was she was working on, but something she was involved in scared her a great deal. Then three weeks ago, she sent him an email saying that she was going to have to disappear and that they would not be able to talk anymore. There were too many dangerous people after her and she was afraid that she had already endangered Mark's life by getting involved with him even just online… Mark pleaded with her to tell him where she was so that he might come and help her but she said no. Then a week ago an email message came from her but it was a compiled file of some kind, but with no message. The file was called the `Terminus Equation', and when Mark opened it he was mesmerized by the data that suddenly started scrolling across his screen and then everything went blank… he woke up in the hospital two hours later. It seems that there was an explosion in his dorm room. Four other students where hurt, luckily no one killed, but Mark's room was totally destroyed and the doctors where amazed that he had survived without a mark on him… except for a `bruise' that seem to run along his left arm. A bruise that when he looked closely was actually thousands of lines of strange marking coiled around and around his arm… he did not really understand what it was or what it said, but he know instinctually that it was called the `Terminus Coil' and that to posses it marked him somehow… somehow bad!  He also understood, without really understand why, that this `coil' gave him powers undreamed up, powers to create and manipulate a cosmic energy form called Terminus Flux. Mark left the hospital that night and underwent his first `transforming', the Terminus Energy causing him to glow green, giving him flight etc. Mark desperately wants to find Yoko but he also wants too find out who sent him the data-file that contained the equation. What is it? Why did it attach to his arm? How and why did it give him these powers?

While flying around trying to figure out what was happening to him and where he should start looking for Yoko, Mark saw a traffic accident, where a family LAV had lost controlled and smashed into a church! Inside, most of the family was fine, except for the young son who was killed by a flying piece of masonry… reacting without thought Mark willed the young boy `back' and to his (and everyone else there) amazement, the boy's eyes opened and he was alive! Mark flew off but vowed then and there that he was going to do what he could to save people from that point on… he would take on the name of one of the old costumed heroes of old and help, and so the Kosmic Kid was born.
