Their freighter was damaged in an ion storm and stopped for repairs at an isolated Bajoran colony dedicated to study and contemplation of the Prophets. They stayed with Kiran and Artos while the work was carried out, who offered them a permanent home on Marentis. On the day the freighter left Temera disappeared, leaving behind Anaphis and an apology. Not knowing the family name or where to look for them, or wanting to return an abandoned child to the care of the Cardassians, Kiran and Artos decided to raise him as their own. The colony was rural and largely self-sustaining, supplying much of its own resources, however Anaphis was always more interested in the wider galaxy and its technology - and keenly aware of the fate he'd escaped that was suffered by so many. Eventually he returned to Bajor and joined the Resistance, where the skills of his upbringing came in useful and they taught him to fight. After the Occupation ended he drifted, taking work wherever he found it. For a while he worked as a labourer in reconstruction efforts on Bajor. After so long away it didn't feel like home, and he never felt like he'd found the path the Prophets intended for him. One day early in the Dominion War he was knocked into by a hurrying Starfleet officer. They got to talking, and the officer dispelled some of the misconceptions Anaphis had picked up about Starfleet. After some thought, he decided the Prophets had put the officer in his path for a reason and enlisted. During testing he scored more highly in security than any other discipline and was routed to security training, although engineering would have been his first choice. This caused a rift with his parents who had hopes he'd return home and turn his efforts towards serving the Bajoran people. Despite this, Anaphis retains a strong faith and believes the Prophets will help him find his path. The first ship he was assigned to, the USS ''Kittiwake'', was destroyed in battle during the Dominion War (Career Event: Ship Destroyed). Stranded with the other survivors, Anaphis's childhood and Resistance skills helped them to survive until Starfleet rescued them. This event only deepened the rift with his parents. Already disapproving of his joining Starfleet, they saw the ship's destruction as a sign from the Prophets that Anaphis was on the wrong path. He also saw it as a sign - that he was able to help the stranded crew meant he was where he was supposed to be. After the destruction of the USS ''Kittiwake'', Anaphis was assigned to the USS ''Ivanova'' under acting Chief of Security Jorsh tak Khebloss, who'd gained a battlefield promotion after the ship suffered heavy losses. They served together for the rest of the war. Later he was mentored by the same officer who'd persuaded him into Starfleet (Career Event: Mentored), who pushed for him to begin officer training. He served for a time as an Ensign on [redacted] and has recently been promoted to the Chief of Security of the ''Hyperion''. ==Equipment== Uniform, communicator, tricorder, Type-2 phaser, d'ja pagh == Relationships with NPCs/other PCs == *Artos and Kiran - his parents. *Lt. Commander Neelam Parr - a joined Trill he once served with, "veteran of seven lifetimes and a twenty-year joining". *Lt. Commander Jorsh tak Khebloss - Tellarite Chief of Security on [redacted], the previous posting of Anaphis. They served together during the Dominion War, serving on the USS Ivanova where tak Khebloss was Security Chief due to a battlefield promotion. *Unnamed Starfleet officer who mentored Anaphis. *Talli Reed - a crewman serving on the Kittiwake during the Dominion War. After the ship went down she and Anaphis spent a lot of time together finding food for the survivors. They became close, one thing led to another, and then.... And then Starfleet rescued them. They were both reassigned back to the war, on different ships, and it's been a while since they had contact.
