= Robert Staab, Man of Mystery = [[File:RobertStaab-Earth.jpg|272 px]][[File:RobertStaab.jpg|250px]] == Attributes == Psyche 6 Strength 6 Endurance 6 Warfare 41 == Powers == '''Warden of the Grand Stair''' (10 points) '''Master of the Grand Stair''' talents (5 points) - Creating New Doors, Evoking the Safety of the Grand Stair, Domain '''Cantrips''' (5 points) * ''Escape'' ("Effugium!") - One of the more draining cantrips, this is a micro-teleport that moves the caster a few yards in the direction they are looking, without changing their facing. If timed correctly, it is an excellent way to evade an incoming attack or reposition to an unexpected location. It is subject to the same limitations on where it can be used as a Sorcery teleport. * ''Nullify'' ("Negare!") - As per Nullify in the LoGaS core rulebook. * ''Paralyze'' ("Congelo!") - As per Paralyze in the LoGaS core rulebook. * ''PsiBreak'' ("Incommunicatus!") - This cantrip is designed to break a psionic link (via spells, Wrighting, etc) between the caster and another individual. It is exceptionally effective when used as the connection is being formed, but can also break an established connection. Surprise is a factor, as is relative Psyche and whether the other individual is devoting their full attention to the link. * ''Quicken'' ("Celeritas!") - As per Quicken in the LoGaS core rulebook. == Artifacts == '''''Opener''''' (25 points) * ''Damage'': Armor Piercing (4 pts, variant of Deadly Damage) - Ignores Invulnerable to Conventional Weapons and can potentially damage armor that is Impervious to Harm. It otherwise strikes as a Double Damage weapon. * ''Tied to a Power'': Connected to a Power (1 pt) - Connected to Master of the Grand Stair * ''Quantity'': Cross-World Persistent (x5 multiplier) - While there is never more than one Opener at a time, a new version can appear from behind nearly any door (including Doors) in the multiverse. At the moment a new Opener appears, any other version of Opener becomes just a normal sword. Even if Opener is completely destroyed, a new version of the sword is just a door away. == Domain == '''The (Hotel) Room Under The Stairs''' * ''Type:'' Personal Domain (1 pt) * ''Security:'' None. * ''Control:'' Control of Contents (1 pt) The Room Under the Stairs is technically a Gossamer world, though it appears to be nothing more than a penthouse suite in a fancy hotel. Roughly 6000 square feet in size, it contains 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a living room with fireplace, formal dining, kitchen, library, billiards room, and an outdoor terrace. There is a night sky with stars, and an endless featureless landscape hundreds of feet below. The only changes that occur between visits are cleaning and restocking - the beds are always made and the refrigerator and pantry are filled with food and drink. Without a close look at the outside surroundings, it is indistinguishable from a modern-day penthouse suite, even to the point of having internet access and television programming from Robert's home world. Robert's connection to the Grand Stair allows him to find the Room Under the Stairs anywhere along its length. Usually, a Door can be found on a landing underneath a section of the Stair, and Robert carries an old-fashioned hotel room key that always seems to fit the lock. Others who might happen on the Door later will find that it is nothing more than one of many unused Doors along the length of the Grand Stair. == Contributions and Points == '''Good Stuff 4''' (Favored by the Grand Stair) '''Contribution:''' Wiki assistance (5 points), LoGaS Rules Guru (5 points) '''Points:''' Attributes 59 + Powers 20 + Artifacts 25 + Domain 2 + Stuff 4 - Contribution 10 = 100 == Background == Born from a whirlwind romance that turned sour, Robert grew up raised by his mother. His father was always willing to fulfill his financial requirements, but the lifestyle of a longtime bachelor did not mesh well with familial obligations. His birth certificate has his mother's surname, and there is not much of a paper trail to connect him with his father. It was therefore a complete surprise when Robert was contacted about being an heir to an overseas estate. Robert hadn't seen his father since graduating from high school, and figured the man had drank himself to death long ago. The last time Robert saw his father, they took a walk around what appeared to be an office building. They took the stairs to the top floor, though the stairwell was...unusual. He listened to his father drone on about being proud of the man Robert turned out to be (though his father had little to do with that) and deliberately kept a neutral face. This wasn't easy, as the doors in the stairwell were of different styles and makes that had little to do with an office building. His father seemed disappointed as the two emerged on the top floor, and Robert was sent away shortly afterward due to a pressing appointment. Robert never heard from him again. Robert graduated with degrees in finance and communications, then joined an intelligence agency and was 'traveling' for the next two decades. He retired at the end of 2016, and has spent the years since then as the owner of an import/export business. However, his past actions caught up with him more than once, which gave him his first suspicion that there were things about reality that didn't add up. There have been three different attempts on his life, and each time he managed to find a sword behind a door at just the right time to use against his attacker...the '''same''' sword each time. Once he evaded a pursuer by ducking into a stairwell, and the pursuer was gone when he emerged. The last three times he booked a hotel, he took the stairs and found the room to be identical - even though the hotel chains were different. When he received news about an inheritance from his father's family, his curiosity about how it could be linked to these strange events overcame his reluctance. == Appearance == Robert is in his late 50s, but is well-preserved for his age and in excellent physical condition.
