Lucia Sunrise is not beautiful per say.  Instead, her red hair and freckled face strike many people as merely pretty.  There's something about her that's reassuring, however.  Her very nature causes people to think well of her and belies a great strength that lies underneath her.  Lucia is also a woman who is unafraid of most things, having already faced the darkest depths of her own heart.  Thus, she never loses her composure.  Lucia speaks in a Southern Winterweir drawl.

Lucia is a kind, tolerance, and sweet woman who nevertheless has a dark and hardened side from her experiences.  Lucia is fiercely protective of the women of the Black Chateau and those with no one to defend them.  She is also extremely cynical about romance given her profession and how she was treated by a noble who claimed to love her.

Lucia is a Spell Casting Priestess of Sybus, theoretically.  Whereas once she was actually quite good at the healing arts, she has lost her faith in the goddess due to the horrible events of her life.  She still maintains her Celestial Mount, Windstrider, despite the fact that the Warhorse should have abandoned her.  She is an extraordinarily wise and sensible woman, with a very good deal of common sense.

Lucia Sunrise was born in the Southlands of Winterweir along the borders of Amania.  A raiser of cattle, they traded with the Free Republic in the sweltering and barren lands (Winterweir is a lot larger than its Northern Climate might suggest---though the weather is closer to Montana than Texas).  Her parents discovered that she had the potential to be a spellcaster when she summoned a Spiritual Hammer to slay a Hell Hound pack leader when it appeared to attack their cattle.  While it was obvious that she was destined to become a Paladin of Tyros by this this Miracle, her parents instead had her transferred to the Church of Sybus where she was made into a Temple virgin.  It was believed that she would avoid violence if she went with the Lady of Mysteries than the Lord of Justice.

Lucia Sunrise served in an undistinguished capacity as a seeress for some years, becoming acquainted with Joseph while he was a monk.  The two became close friends, their mutual circumstances chafing on them.  Despite suspicions to the contrary, it was never a romantic relationship.  Her life, unfortunately, came crashing down when she caught the eye of Kira D'Diavolos, the son of the High Prosecutor.  A rich minor noble, he was one that desired Lucia deeply and ignored the blasphemy of attempting to court a temple virgin (not that she was remotely interested).

In the end, Kira took matters into his own hands and assaulted her.  How far the assault went is anyone's guess, given Lucia is hardly a wilting violet and he was a foppish dandy, but the matter drew the attention of outsiders.  Rather than have his son burned alive for blaspheming a priestess of Sybus, the High Prosecutor instead marked she seduced him and had been involved in numerous affairs.  Playing on stories and rumors, she was suddenly disowned by her own clergy and sentenced to die for blasphemy.

Salvation came in the form of Albert and Cyne, whom are amongst the only Winterweir legal officers interested in the spirit of the law rather than the letter.  Cyne championed her cause and killed Diavolos' champion, thus sparing her from execution.  Unfortunately, she was defrocked as a priestess and left penniless on the streets of Alfein.  Her decision to become a prostitute as a result was partially born from her own loss of faith in Sybus.  That and she genuinely enjoys being an entertainer.  The extra money from her "side profession" goes to aiding those around her.
