According to the Praetorian Kaede Nonohara ([[Mononoke(CoH)|Mononoke]]), it's Kaede Nonohara's tragic destiny to be the hosts of demons in every world, as she is. The [[Majin(CoH)|Kaede Nonohara of Primal Earth]] had a slightly stranger fate. In a dimension an incalculable distance from Primal Earth, a terrible monster was slain. Normally, this would halt its rampage only temporarily, as its imperishable soul would inevitably be reincarnated, grow once more to its power, and devastate that world once again. But this time, its defenders had planned ahead. Mighty rituals were enacted to banish the evil once and for all, severing it from the cycle of reincarnation and casting it into the infinite void between universes. As an added precaution, they wrapped the soul in a synthetic karma of a life most alien to the ones it had always lived - a quiet life of peace and tranquility. Aeons or moments later, that inhuman soul drifted to Primal Earth and was emeshed in its karmic wheel. For lack of any place better for it to fit, it reincarnated as a human infant, in the Rogue Islands. It is a tribute to the craft with which the false destiny it had been shackled to was prepared that the peace it mandated lasted 16 entire years. Kaede Nonohara grew up in a crime-ridden city, but the Family and Arachnos kept it manageable and away from the civilians. Her parents died in the Rikti War, but she survived and mourned. She lived through petty school drama, but was unscathed in body and heart. And then one evening in a dirty side-street, the facade of normality forced upon her finally collapsed in a surge of violence and anger and unearthly power. This world would be as doomed as the last... but things were a bit different this time. She fought for thrills more than cruelty, and sought out other young villains as friends rather than lackeys or slaves. Perhaps some small fragment of that early life of quiet still clings to her? Perhaps her childhood has changed an evil previous believed immutable? Only time will tell.
