The ponies of House Quill have served the Equestrian Throne for some 15 generations (in various capacities). Cypher's sister Belladonna is a officer in the Lunar Guard. Their father, Ivory Quill had been a star in the Equestrian Diplomatic Corps, until a crippling injury forced him into an early retirement. Cypher followed her father into the Diplomatic Corps, and achieved several early successes, making friends for Equestria in several neighboring lands. The direction of her duties was changed by the ascension of Nightmare Moon to the throne. The Pony who was welcomed with open hooves in foreign courts is now feared as the Voice of the Moon in those same courts.

But... Cypher Quill lives up to her name, and her family's tradition of service. The feared Voice of the Moon is also, secretly, the ear of the resistance. Working tirelessly to restore Princess Celestia to the throne, and getting Equestria back to what it once was.

Cypher cuts a somewhat sinister figure as she is generally seen in her black (with silver trim) "Diplomatic" Corps longcoat. She still has her old hunter green Corps long coat, which she is saving to wear when Princess Celestia is restored to the throne.
