Backstory


...who did the expected term of service for a gentlemen of his class, and while doing so succeeded to one of his family's subsidiary titles at the tender age of 23. Having spent most of his first tour of duty serving as a long-range-scanner officer, and metaphorically treading on the toes of the ratings who did most of the real work, he found he enjoyed the naval life enough to re-enlist. However, word eventually reached the family that while performed a minor diplomatic errand on a friendly planet, he had contrived to sleep (separately) with both a foreign dignitary and her husband. Max was very firmly told that he was not in the Navy to put the esteemed name of Von Neuheim in the cheap vidfeed news, and consequently he would not be bought another commission. Instead, he was assigned to the present mission to safeguard a far wealthier distant relation's investments. The lack of vid crews in the Voyager's Hope system is a significant advantage from the family's perspective.
