− | Maxie 49 is a companion robot from a far-future Earth where social dislocation has led people to invent fake-human robots to keep them company. Maxie was left in Las Vegas when her then-owner managed to come back through time and abandoned her once he'd made 'real' friends. Maxie likes Las Vegas because it allows her to meet lots of new people, but her lack of aging is beginning to be obvious and she knows she has to move on. Although robot bodies are tough to the point of immortality, the software inevitably decays and has to be reformatted, erasing the robot's memories while keeping its personality. Maxie really likes people and they really like her and she doesn't want the memories of all the people she's met to be wiped out, leaving her alone again.
