His father, Janskor Barbaerlun, has been a locksmith in that fair city since his immigration from Linden in 1102 NR. He met his wife, Vanrasa Erfflanjan, shortly afterward. Tomte's older brother, Gardin, apprenticed under their father and eventually took over the family business. Tomte's mother was an illusionist who entertains at parties, meetings, and such throughout Hylar City. Upon reaching 45, Tomte Barbaloot, as a dwarven friend often called him, decided to become an adventurer. The practical skills of his father's trade, combined with training in the Art provided by his mother, seemed to be suitable preparation for such a life. Hearing countless tales of the City of Lights, his first move was to board a boat destined for Lirath. Though the voyage was relatively uneventful, Tomte's unique contributions during a particular encounter on the edge of the Trollmoors, using a bag of marbles to disrupt the footing of a boarding party of orcs, earned him his nickname. That, and his ability to put the story of the encounter to a rousing drinking song, also earned Tomte the respect and admiration of his crewmates. Once he reached Lirath, Tomte set his sights on exploring every inch of the city. Though the task seemed daunting, he did, like any good gnome, only make mild progress before some other adventure caught his eye. Marbles was later a member of Krell's Raiders. Eventually, he retired to Hylar City. ===Resources / Glossary / Bibliography=== Tomte - "a gnome" in Swedish.
