His grandparents had been dwarves of some prominence in Erebor of old, before the coming of the dragon Smaug. With the taking of the lonely mountain, his family had fled as exiles to seek shelter in the Iron Hills under Grór, grandfather to Dain Ironfoot. There Núr learned to use hammer and anvil. He excelled at stonework of all kinds. He learned to tunnel and to mine. Nothing gave him joy like feeling the living rock yield to his hammer as he shaped and worked it. And so the early years of his life were spent. Then when he was 75 years old, the dragon was slain. He joined Dain Ironfoot and fought at the battle of the Five Armies. Since then, he has been working to rebuild the home of his fathers. That work is nearly finished now and for the first time in his life a new desire has awoken in his dwarvish heart. Seeing the vast riches of Erebor, the intricate craftsmanship of the dwarves, has turned his thoughts to other treasures lost in the mists of time. Núr has set out from Erebor to seek such treasures wherever they may be found. His desire is not for wealth or power, but out of a love for all things of beauty shaped and created by skilled hands. The thought of these great treasures lost in some pit or cave, hoarded by evil things is more than he can bear. Along the way, if he can have some adventure and blacken the eye of the shadow some, then so much the better.
