Normal Kant really isn't. He was born with an innate immunity to all forms of magic. and a weak ability to sense its presence. Spells targeting him fail, and magical effects that touch him start unraveling quickly, to the point where his touch actually seems to burn creatures who are fueled by magical energies. With practice he is learning to extend his dead magic aura out, annihilating mystical effects nearby. He is also starting to get better at sensing magical energies, while originally it was a vague unconscious sense, its now something he actively recognizes, although not with great precision (given a few more years and he'll be able to pin point exact sources of magical energies, and recognize what said energies are for/about). He got promoted through the sheriff's department in lightning time, due in no small part to his natural advantages, and gets a lot of gentle (and not so gentle) ribbing about his inexperience from his noticeably more senior deputies. '''History''' Its pretty common knowledge these days that the drugs and other chemicals an expectant mother takes can affect her unborn child. What's less commonly known is that this is true of magic, too. A sorceress who casts spells while pregnant channels plenty of mystical energy, and some of that lingers in her child, leaving an increased chance of some kind of innate magical talent (some occult scholars believe that all the great "magical lineages" started/were strengthened in this manner, but this conjecture isn't really provable). Normal's father was a leg-breaker/drug dealer working for an infernalist cult, his mother was an apprentice sorceress for the same. The cult knew nothing of magic's tendancy to "stay in the family", and even if they did, wouldn't have suspected there was anything odd about Norm- his mother was a student, mostly practicing basic magical negations and detections (always teach antimagic first-- basic safety tip) and he seemed totally ordinary. Four years later there was some kind of complication with the birth of their second son. The Cult killed Norm's mother, and his father fled them, taking Norm with him. A week later he was dead (his intestines turned to snakes) and Norm was found by the authorities. Now an orphan he went into foster care. He moved a bit, but otherwise had an uneventful adolescence, leaving high school and becoming a mechanic, which was satisfying until angry ghosts began possessing machinery/vehicles. Norm survived the nightmare, and was visited by one of the Recruiters. He turned them down. Sure, that incident had shown why people shouldn't desecrate old burial grounds, and certainly there'd be no end of work for a mechanic in an isolated community, but Norm wanted to make a fresh start on his own. He moved to a new town and switched trades to try his hand as a builder, which was satisfying until his boss went mad and begun turning all the workers into zombies so they'd work harder/longer. Norm survived the nightmare, and became one of only a handful of people ever to be visited by a Recruiter twice. He turned them down. Sure that incident had shown the dangers of letting ancient magic into the hands of the greedy, and certainly there'd be no end of work for a good builder in an isolated community, but Norm wanted to make a fresh start on his own, again. He moved to a new town and signed up as a sheriff's deputy (reasoning his practice at dangerous situations would be helpful), which was satisfying until the town got overrun by werewolves. Norm survived the nightmare, and having finally confronted the truth about his own nascent abilities gave up and decided to hunt down [[Tฤcere|this mysterious haven town]]. Thanks to those abilities, he found it. [[Tobyverse]]
