Ollandah lived in a world of, as they are commonly known, "welfare bums". She knew that her mother was brother to Denzel's father making them cousins, but until recently Denzel was one cousin amongst many- and one in a different part of the world at that- and was no part of her life.

Zackary, however, she did know. Unlike the others around, Zackary actually had a job. More than that, Zackary had a vision in life. At least in comparative terms he wa confident and charming.

Ollandah is constantly training to be a Pilot in order to emuluate Zackary. She takes as much interest in the work of being a Pilot or Anchor as possible, going so far as to watch Zackary with Elizabeth as he goes off to battle.

As a person Ollandah is idealistic and trusting, even for a child. Already having a 'real-world' hero she takes no interest in fiction, but plays chess in her spare time (and is actually pretty good at it).
