Unaz the Old Cultist (NPC)
The Old Man: Infused the Cult of Speed and Chrome upon Vergen. 
Refusing to give a name but reacting to anything remotely old, he has survived this world for some time. Being a mechanic and tinkerer when he was in his previous group, he grew to his current situation by making weapons for Raiders. Those Raiders easily overpowered their enemies and kept the Old Man. They treat him like a slave, throwing impossible tasks and berating and beating him when he failed. But his usefulness has kept him alive. 

Being a collector of books in his previous life, he carried a scrapbook of collated pages which he calls the Holy Book. The book describes great metal machines, beasts that have the condensed essence of hundreds of horses, the great Car. He shared this with Vergen and taught him to praise any sign of good craftsmanship, especially the piston engine. “Praise the Holy V8, two banks of four!”
