This pushed him more towards exploring and visiting places with centuries worth of history. He is never sure as to what it does, other than it might be a communicator of some sort working a different waveband than radio, although he is able to pic up and transmit sometimes. That lead him to exploring ruins, where he found a locally holy artifact. Knowing that if he gave it back to one side or the other, heβd end up starting a civil war, he sold it to the Imperial Museum of Social History. It sort of united the planet against the Imperials, and he left posthaste. They never found out that he was the responsible party. While conducting a survey of droyne ruins he comes upon a centuries old transponder beam, which takes him to a hidden grave. Examination reveals someone who was far off the usual path [Darrian?] It was just as well that he had found that grave, because the energy rifle he found there would soon be put to good use fending off the multi-ton Xrgo that migrated in to the area. He decides to buckle down and publish a paper about his findings on that world. A nearby professor laureate challenges his findings, and Phineas moves the discussion to to public arena, where he badly humiliates to old professor. The wily old man is not without resources though, and soon Phineas finds himself stranded on a primitive droyne world. He makes the best of it and picks up that language before being rescued by a passing ship, signaling it with his artifact. There is a passing moment of regret as he had attained a favored status of a neutral party and judge of sorts. That rescue ship was a scout ship, and once at the scout base he found himself dragooned in special operations and he undergoes a few years training for his role. He never really finds out what the operation is about as it goes bust a few months in...he just knew that he had been asked to keep an eye on the [Darrian?] embassy. Following protocol he obtains a new identity and face and runs, hitchhiking on whatever ship is nearest. While on the lam he meets a wandering droyne whom he calls Torgo, and takes him under his wing. He also becomes friends with the tramp freighter (smuggler) Captain Los Anoh, whom he traveled with in that last year of his escape. For it did come to an end and he was able to reclaim his name and assets, though he kept the new face
