Shadow is vast but even it is a hierarchy of realms that spans from the Courts of Chaos to Amber.  At the pinnacle of the creations of the animal races rises one individual that harnesses great power. This creature is called the Primal Beast.  The incarnation of intelligence can travel from beast to beast should one be slain.  The creature gains great intelligence, durability, the ability to travel shadow, and much more.  Some beasts, such as the Unicorn of Amber, have become patrons to Primal Realms and have upped their power accordingly.

The '''Unicorn of Amber''' and the '''Serpent of Chaos''' are Primal Beasts but there are others.  They have great power, can travel shadow and chaos, and sometimes become patrons of great realms, such as the unicorn did.  In the Jeweled Amber campaign several Primal Beasts played important roles.

'''Bear''' was the patron of Corwin's realm of Avalon.
 +

 +
'''Ygg''' was the primal beast of Adrian's Mandalay.

 +
'''Tiger''' traveled with Borlak.
 +

 +
'''Morgenstern''' is the Primal Horse and travels with Julian.
 +

 +
The '''Butterfly''', a large monarch, enjoys following Doria around, spoiling her goddess of death image.

'''Cat''' is a fickle creature and often lives in Amber.  It frequents the Sea View Gardens.  It seems to like Flora and will often spend time with her.  Flora is terribly put out that she canโ€™t seem to bond with the animal in the way Jullian, Borlak, and Corwin seem to have done.  Its in the nature of the cat.
