'''Capsule:''' Pietro was born a mutant, with the power of superspeed. An European Gypsy, Pietro and his twin sister [[Scarlet Witch|Wanda]], also a mutant, suffered persecution from superstitious peasants. The pair of youngsters eventually came into the protection of Magneto, mutant master of magnetism, and joined their Brotherhood of Mutants.

But Pietro never was entirely comfortable with Magneto's open hostility to mankind. He and his sister helped Magneto's enemies, the X-Men, whenever they could. They finally deserted Magneto to travel to America and join the supergroup known as the Avengers when many of their original members had taken leaves of absence.

Quicksilver is a volatile personality, to say the least. He is arrogant and sometimes distrustful of normal humans, he used to be overprotective of his sister, and his marriage to the Inhuman [[Crystal]] has had many crises. Sometimes he even found himself acting more like a villain than a hero, but eventually he always comes back to the side of the angels.
