Son, when I woke this morning I saw a red fringe on the wheat to the South.  This will be my last day to ride.  I tell you, my boy, no matter what happens on this day, we are victorious.  Remember that true triumph is to fully be, with no regrets and no shame.  I have no shame.  Live without regret, Nathan.  Live every day.

Once this war is over (and it will be over soon), it will be time for the builders, like your uncle, to take the reigns of this country.  It doesn't matter how many times we ride against the realm, they will always return until we are a true nation.  This confederacy cannot hold forever unless it is bound in bonds stronger than mutual fear.  Remember that!

Do you hear it?  That sound like a flash of light in your eyes when you crest a ridgeline?  It is the horns.  I must ride or I'll burst.  Go and kiss your mother and your aunt.  Tonight, go down to the river and find a stone for me.  Keep it with you to remember your father, for I know already that before the day is out we will be so many stones washed clean by honorable death.  From such stones you must build a nation.
