There are times when legitimate jobs for Imperial authorities pay well enough to rouse a Rogue Trader's attention. Lord-Captain Vasilyevitch took one such job several years back, transporting a number of documents and manifests off world quickly and quietly with the intent of handing them over the the Administratum, proving several members of a planetary government were diverting Imperial tithes to...personal projects. It would earn him the thanks of a grateful Governor, and more importantly an advantageous place at the bargaining table for a number of trade agreements. The package was to be transferred by Valkyrie under armed guard and delivered to his ship.

As happens with these things, matters swiftly took a nasty turn. The hanger the Valkyrie was in was attacked by a local cartel under the control of one of the plot's ringleaders. By the time Vasilyevitch and his crew arrived, they found the Valkyrie a smoking wreck, it's PDF crew slaughtered - all except an exhausted looking young lieutenant, her back to a strongbox, holding a lasgun whose power pack was flashing a small red "Empty" light, it's bayonet fixed and having seen a great deal of use.

Vasilyevitch took an immediate liking.

Knowing that the inevitable shakeup in the planet's government would likely see her killed by one of the factions now implicated in the conspiracy, she chose to flee as part of the Rogue Trader's crew, abandoning a simple, clear life as a promising young cadet officer in the local PDF for something far more complex. Viewing the captain as a savior of sorts, Marianna has found a place as his sometime-bodyguard, and applies her considerable talent when it comes to violence with a careful, methodical thoroughness, her strikes swift and precise. She prefers to stay out of the limelight, more than content to play the menacing, well armed figure in the background, though on memorable occasion she manages to cut a more flamboyant figure, once having been mistaken, thanks to a very well fitted corset and a pair of mono-blades, for an Imperial Assassin. Though she prefers her powersword and a brace of carefully tuned Hellpistols, Marianna is deadly with a staggering array of weapons, and is building something of a collection - her curiosity regarding Eldar weaponry not at all seemly for a good Imperial girl. She's also rather dangerous without them - a rival of Vasilyevitch's believed that, with nothing more than a companion in an evening dress on his arm, he was vulnerable and attempted an impromptu assassination. The man died with the jagged rim of a shattered champaign flute buried in his throat. The dress was ruined.
