==BACKGROUND==

Ginny Fergeson was born and raised in Silicon Valley, Cal Free State.  She Awakened as a mage in her mid-teens and started attending Stanford's magical program on a scholarship, studying arcane trauma care. Magical healing specialists can command top dollar. DocWagon and several other firms were already making offers for when she graduated and life was good.  Until the party.

Her friend Mina had declared she was spending too much time studying, so Ginny found herself made over, dressed up completely out of character and dragged to an off-campus house party.  It wasn't her thing and she was planning on leaving, until she saw Mina going upstairs with a strange guy... and Mina didn't like guys.

Following along, Ginny saw him bit into Mina's throat, then lunge after her when she was spotted.  Panic set in, but only for an instant... something said she had to kill this thing to save her friend and everyone else at the party!  That jolted new instincts awake.  She knew the signs of HMHVV when she saw it and what its effects were.  After a headlong run through the house (literally in the vampire's case), she managed to levitate the vamp and hold him at the bottom of the pool until he stopped moving, then cut off his head with a tree saw someone had left in the back yard.

A cushy job healing up corporate youths who hurt themselves on drunken dares didn't have the appeal that it used to... and that's when the headhunter from MetaHazard Containment, Ltd. showed up.  A small firm that specialized in hunting monsters, they had seen Ginny's store on the web and made her an offer she jumped at.

MHC hunted monsters.  “When things go bump in the night, we bump back” was one of their mottos.  They acted as contractors for a variety of other corporations, deploying small, heavily-armed teams to kill nests of vampires, stray bug spirits, Shedim and a lot of things which don't have names yet.

She trained in combat magic with the other mage on staff and learned more about her mentor spirit, the Hero of a Thousand Faces.  The spirit of heroism, it manifested as Beowulf, Hercules, St. George, Son Wukong, Susan-o and many more.  The biggest thing she learned is that the Awakening isn't over.  It's an ongoing process that's bringing more and more things into the world, many of them quite hostile to humans.  Things that need killing.

It was a dangerous job, but she was good at it... it was an important job, both financially and personally rewarding.  The friendships forged in combat lasted a lifetime.

This didn't last.  What should have been a simple raid on a ghoul's nest wiped out six people on her eight man squad... There were vampires there, vampires that had been very heavily cyber-enhanced, extensive arms and armor... and she recognized the vampires as kills from a prior job, the bodies turned over to Ares for “medical research.”

When the survivors got back to headquarters, they found a new manager in place... MHC had been bought out by Ares, and the new guy told her they'd be getting a lot of stock options if she just signed off on the report saying that it was a training accident that killed the rest of her squad.

Ginny walked out the door and never came back.  With the help of a friend in HR, she got a new, fake SIN and moved to Seattle, living in the shadows and running them to make a living.  She's still hunting monsters... sometimes for a corp, but on her own too.

Ginny, now going by “Rose Black,” always wears frilly gothic fashion elements, as much as possible, even on runs.  That's how she was dressed when she killed that first vampire and she feels it is essential for good performance.  This was rated as “Mild” on the Personal Eccentricity Index at MHC.

A petite human woman in her mid-20s with deep red hair in huge sausage curls, Rose has very pale skin and red eyes that are almost certainly contact lenses.  Her signature color is black, accented with red or white and she favors leather outfits with lacy accents... Her tactical gear has a few such flourishes, such as a tiny hat panted on the side of the helmet or a shawl pinned on her shoulders.  Her combat boots are knee-high lace up style with thick soles and she wears these for work and play. Leather trenchcoats and corsets feature into her casual wear, along with striped stockings and T-shirts with cartoon characters on them.

She puts on the “spooky” for humorous effect, but is clearly a trained professional at a very dangerous job.
