For months, the inhabitants lived off warehouse spoilage, rats, and what fish they could catch. :In the delirium of half life, Ioseb emerged as a leader. He walked among the sailors, stevedores and prostitutes, breaking up fights and raising spirits. Believing they would all survive, Ioseb kept going by sheer force of bloody will as the dead began to outnumber the living, his own body wasting away as bout after bout of the flux turned his insides out.

He would talk to the dead just as to the living and as the bodies of both wasted away, he would tell them happier times were coming. Whether it was took one year or two for the flux to pass and for the council to reopen the docks, the tale that is told is of a pile of clothing and bones and a man sat atop it surrounded by skulls, offering counsel to the dead.
