The campaign will start in April 1941. The campaign could see action/scenes set Syria, Trans Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Lybia, and Tunisa.
=== EGYPT === * Nominally independent since 1922 * Under British occupation and influence since 1882 after the Orabi Revolt * Bound by treaty with the UK to house British troops * But declared neutrality with regard to the war * Fierce Egyptian nationalist opposition to British involvement in Egypt * Government currently lead by King Farouk, and parliament, led by Prime Minister Hussein Sirri Pasha, appointed to appease British demands * General Henry Maitland Wilson commands Egyptian military in the Western Desert ==== ALEXANDRIA ==== Base of British operations in 1941, acts as a safe harbour, air base, and supply point for British operations across North Africa. Significant amount of clandestine operations - especially from German, Italian, Spanish, and English agents seeking historical and archeaological information on Atlantis. ==== CARIO ==== Located at the head of the Nile River, Cairo is a cosmopolitan city, and the largest city in 1941 in the Arab world and Africa. Established in its current incarnation as a capital by the Fatimid dynasty in 986AD. Cairo has an impressive citadel, a minaret filled skyline, and is close to the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx at Giza. Especially surrounding the Egyptian Museum, and related antiquities dealers and the like, there is significant clandestine operations happening in Cairo. Oft times, this activity breaks out into open combat in Cairo (ulnike Alexandria, where the heavy British presence keeps outright combat to a minimum).
=== LYBIA === italy gained influence in North Africa from the Ottoman Empire after the Italo-Turkish War of 1911 to 1912. In 1934, Italy consolidated its three North African colonies of Tripolitania, Cyrenaica, and Fezzan into a single entity of Italian Libya. In 1940, the British Operation Compass destoryed the Italian 10th Army, and gave significant control of the Lybian desert to the British. In early 1941, Germany sent in fresh troops and equipment, the Afrika Korps, under command of General Erwin Rommel. Rommel's Operation Sonnenblume pushed the British back behind the Egyptian border, and recaptured all of Lybia save for the port city of Tobruk. ==== TOBRUK ==== Tobruk, port, northeastern Libya. It was the site of Antipyrgos, an ancient Greek agricultural colony, and thereafter a Roman fortress guarding the Cyrenaican frontier. The town later became a way station on the coastal caravan route. At the start of the campaign, Tobruk is currently under siege by the Afrika Korps. There's a garrison of British and Australian troops holding Tobruk currently, supported by British navy and British and independent blockade runners in the Medeterranian Sea.
=== TRANS JORDAN === Effectively created by a combination of the Conference of San Remo in 1922, and the League of Nations confirming the Palestine Mandate in 1925, Trans Jordan is a nominally independent nation ruled by Emir Abdullah. In reality, Trans Jordan relies heavily on British monetary and military support, and as of the campaign start date is considered to be a fully British controlled vasall state in function, if not legally.
=== SYRIA === Syria was part of the Turkish Empire until 1918. The French Army entered Syria in 1922 and expelled the Arab leader Emir Feisal. France claimed that Syria fell into its sphere of influence as defined in the Sykes-Picot agreement. The Syrians resented the presence of French troops and the Druse Insurrection (1925-27) forced them to withdraw from the capital, Damascus. Negotiations took place and in 1939 the French government promised Syria her independence. The French Vichy government maintains signficant military presence in Syria, and as of the campaign start, is considered to effectively control Syria. Behind the scenes, the Vichy government is supported in this effort with money and military might by Germany.
=== TUNISA === A French colonial possession since 1881, though nominally independent and under the rule of the Bey government. Significant Vichy and Gernman forces are stationed in Tunisia at the start of the campaign.
== SUPER POWERS WORLD WAR II == At the start of the campaign, the British have an edge in super powered personnel. The secretive British intelligence unit, founded in 1926, known as Branch Nine (the pun was very much intended from the start), began gathering intelligence on and recruiting democracy supporting super powered individuals from around the globe to fight in a potential war effort. As a result, when German, Italain, and Spanish aggression and the rising tide of fascism made war seem inevitible, a flood of super powered volunteers hit the British military. The British created a seperate armed forces strcucture, called the Talent Operations Group, to sit alongside it's other military organizations. The TOG saw to the basic military training of super powered volunteers, and then seconded it's super powered forces to British military units. The so called Axis powers of German, Italy, Spain, and Japan had an edge (at least at the campaign start) in the reverse engineering of ancient Atlantean technology, and had created industrialized war machines / war technology based on Vrill or Telluric energies. They also fielded super powered military forces - but at a much smaller clip than did the British (by early 1941, at least)
=== BRANCH NINE === The so-called Hammermith incident, which saw an explosion of Telluric energy which entered and spread throughout Earth's magnetosphere was attened by Dr. Hammermith, by 27 invited guests, and by one uninvited guest. The invited guests included Howard Stark, us inventor and industrialist; Emillo Mola, Spanish military officer, polyglot, and scientific prodigy. Emillo Mola would go on to be one of 3 major players in the Nationalist revolution in Spain. Right after the Hammersmith incident, Emillo Mola began research into Atlantean history, archaelology and scientific principles. By the outbreak of World War II, he was considered the foremost researcher and inventor of modern applications of Atlantean derived technologies. Emillo invested a significant amount of time from 1933 to the outbreak of World War II hunting down and finding Atlantean artifacts, archeaological sites, and written materials. He gathered together a cadre of trusted Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese comrades who would form the basis of his informal intelligence network during the war. (GM Note, Emillo Mola is a real spanish historical figure - here he is being fictionalized into a rank genius who spearheads the Axis powers use of Atlantean technology during the war - he is also this game's main villain). The uninvited guest was Sidney George Reilly - considered to be one of British intelligence's top operatives. He was instrumental in saving the invited guest from the fire that resulted from the Hammersmith experiment. Immediately following the incident, Hammersmith spent time with British policitcal and intelligence leaders. Based on his briefing with them - in a secret charter passed by Parliment - the British created an intelligence agency led by Reilly called Branch Nine. Reilly had his death faked in 1925 - and by all appearances he dropped off the face of the earth in 1925. In reality, he spent the next decade finding out about, and attempting to recruit, a massive army of super powered individuals to fight in a future war Reilly felt was inevitible. At the start of the campaign, George Reilly still leads Branch Nine. He personally recruited the players' characters into Branch Nine. (GM Note, Reilly is a real historical figure - here he is fictionalized into a character who gained Precognitive powers and foresaw the start of World War II. He runs the intelligence agency to which the player character's belong - and he individually and personally recruited each PC. As a GM, I am explicitly saying Reilly is a fascist hating good guy who wants to see the fascists defeated and democracy protected).
