[[Savage_X-COM: UFOPaedia | Back to UFOPaedia]] '''Alien Abduction:''' The most visible and pressing signs of alien activity are their abduction attempts. In the past, recorded events of abductions were isolated rural and wilderness areas. However, since the Lenox incident, the aliens have been targeting larger urban regions.
Based on witnessed activity, abductions run in three phases..
Phase One: A ship in orbit fires down what we have called abduction pods. They impact the site, and unleash a combination of gas and something that resembles green vines, that immobilize and paralyze anybody caught near them. This typically lasts five minutes and incapacitates most of the civilians present..
Phase Two: Additional pods are shot down. These ones contain aliens, who then round up the captured civilians. If anybody attempts to interfere, they engage with lethal force. They’ll move the paralyzed abductees to a central location in the site. This takes thirty minutes to an hour..
Phase Three: The UFO drops out of orbit and hovers above the site, deploying some form of tractor beam, that brings the aliens and their prisoners aboard. It then rapidly exits our atmosphere again. This phase usually takes ten minutes.
It is presently unknown why the aliens are conducting mass abductions. The chief hypothesis is for research into humanity. Finding where the abductees are taken, why they’re taken and rescuing them is a high priority for X-COM.

'''Alien Scouting Mission''': Current analysis suggests that these missions are precursors to larger alien missions. The aliens scout out a region, based on criteria we do not know, using a variety of small ships. They’ll return to their origin point (also unknown). Within a few days, the primary mission craft will be dispatched.
Stopping UFO scouting missions will slow down, but not stop associated alien missions.

'''Alien Terror Mission:''' A direct escalation in hostilities, alien terror missions seem to be suicide operations, with large numbers of aliens deployed into dense urban areas; with instructions to eliminate and kill any humans encountered. The reason seems to be retaliation for our interference with alien operations; a way to tell the world governments that we cannot stop them.

So far, the standard procedure for alien terror sites is to deploy anti-air weapons and then begin attakcing civilians en masse. Future operations must make destruction of these weapons the priority, so we can eliminate alien positions from the air.
X-COM's ability to respond to terror missions is vital to maintain our ongoing support with world governments. It represents the most direct attack on human infrastructure. IF we cannot deal with them, the world governments will look elsewhere for solutions to the alien invasion. Accordingly, terror sites are Tier One top priority response, and will have teams from multiple bases dispatched.
