[[ScariksGPC | Campaign Home]] =Fuedal Obligations= ==Castle Garrisons== Normally you owe 1 knight and 3 foot per 10L of land with 1 of those foot going to the liege's garrison. When you hold a castle for your liege those garrison men are stationed at your own castle. A typical motte-and-bailey requires a minimum 10 footmen to hold. These men then need a footman officer (1 of the ten is promoted) and the castle always needs a castellan when you aren't around. The castellan can be your own wife if all knights are called up but one of your knights should also be named as castellan (treated as a knight officer). More defenders is always better and better quality defenders are better as well. You can either pay for them out of your own funds or if you have enough garrison men you can pay for them using the excess funds. '''Garrison funds:''' each 10L of your holdings is .5L for a footman to the garrison. You need at least 10 footmen to hold the castle (including officer). So if your Army would give you 15 garrison men you can instead drop 5 of those to turn 5 regular footmen into armored footmen who are better skilled and equipped. Footman: .5L, the common spearman with spear, shield and leather or an archer with a bow and no armor. Armored Footman: 1L, a more skilled spearman with spear and shield and light maille Guardsman: 1.5L, a highly skilled soldier able to use both spear and longspear with full maille. Foot Officer: +.5L Equipped as 1 category better than the men lead. Guardsmen are typically lead by esquires or other cavalrymen.
