She never sought to be joined, happily making her way as an engineer in a private company and raising her two children. She was a competent engineer, but quickly became a great manager: her knack for drawing people's best work out served her well, and as her kids grew up, she rose through the ranks until she was an officer at her company. Life was good, but she started to get bored. When her kids were grown and away (the older, joined, making a good start in politics; the younger working on a merchant vessel), she got more restless. After the losses at Wolf 359, Starfleet began a heavy recruiting campaign for people with experience in key fields, including engineering. Encouraged by her kids, Zeri took a plunge to try something new. Her field knowledge and people skills served her well, so even though she has relatively few years in the fleet, she has been given a position as chief engineer. But it isn't always easy for Zeri: she is used to a more organic and informal style, and she often bristles at the "Starfleet way," which has earned her a few reprimands. *[[Star_Trek_Intrepid|Back]]
