M3-R15 was a protocol droid who rode with N1 during his pre-Rebellion days.  They were confidants and lovers, running just under the Imperial radar performing courier missions in Hutt space.  Unfortunately, during an incident with an Imperial patrol ship, M3’s calculations revealed that their best chance of survival was betrayal.  N1 is still bitter about that breakup.
