=Stars and Six Guns= ==A Western Game Set in the 1870s DC Universe== ===A Short History=== In 1835 a small group of settlers founded the Settlement of Star on the west coast of america along the shores of the Pacific ocean on a gentle, forested slope in a place called Orchid Bay. It 1846 a young Scotsman named MacQueen came to what had grown into a small township and opened, to the surprise of many, a shipyard. He would build ships, load them with cargo, mostly local lumber and some native crafts, and then send them across the sea to Asia where both ship and cargo would be sold. The gold rush of 1848 bought many miners into the area and MacQueen made use of, some say took advantage of, the influx of what would turn out to be cheap labour, to build a railroad from the Township of Star to the settled east. When the gold rush ended in 1855 Star had become a small City and MacQueen one of its chief citizens. Star City grew slowly through the years that followed, seeing some influx of war tired refugees during the Civil War. In 1868 there was an explosion at a copper mine in the mountains above Star City. Joseph Gardener and his two sons West and Michael were killed, leaving only the oldest brother Nathan Gardener the survivor. He came from the mine, surprisingly unharmed, though some said he was touched in the head after that day. Touched or not the old copper Gardener mine started producing gold. In 1870 Nathan Gardener, now the richest man in Star City has set his sites on the position of Mayor. He has hired a large number of violent men and women to act as his personal army, under the claim of hiring security for his mine and gold. Many people had flocked to Star City, swelling its population and causing the city to grown in a chaotic way. The once orderly Star City is not a collection of ramshackle buildings and shanty towns mixed with the stone and timber construction of Star City’s earlier days. ===People of Note=== ====Player Characters==== Itza-chu, the Hawktalon Wallace "Wally" West Steel Sheriff Niké, the Fury "Three-Card Monty" Montgomery Devereaux Meilin Cheng Ashley Porter ====Non Player Characters==== *Nathan Gardener - An man in his 40s, the sole owner of the Gardener Mining Co. His wealth has grown greatly since he found a seam of gold on his lands, and is currently working on mining it. A large number of violent men and women are in his employ. *Paul Bolt - The current mayor, a middle aged man, a good city manager, but not particularly charismatic. His current term is up in two months and he seems likely to lose. *Andrew Cougar - In his younger days Andrew was a feared gunfighter, and for the last ten years has been Star City’s sheriff. He has not handled the growth of Star City well, still trying to uphold the law as if it were still a small town. *Saul Green - One of Andrew’s deputy’s, a man from out East, who talks of police sciences and such. Considered a bit of an Egghead, he’s more skilled with a rifle than most would give him credit for. *Theodore Grady - The leader, as much as it has one, or the Irish Immigrants. A big man, looking out for the rest of his people. He is prone to violence, but his real strength is the support of the community. *Oliver MacQueen (Queen) - Before Nathan's windfall Oliver MacQueen was the richest and most influential man in Stay City. While he still claims influence, that seems to be slowly chipped away by Nathan's grown wealth. Still, control of the three rail roads that come into Star City mean's he will remain relevant to the city's life for years to come. ===Places of Note=== *The Triangle - An area of the city made up of competing interests. The area is called the triangle less so because of its shape and more because three groups are looking to take control of it. The Chinese Tongs push opium and try to keep an iron grip on the local Chinese immigrants. The Irish have formed a protective association of sorts and under the guidance of Grady seem to feel the more territory they hold the better. Finally Nathan Gardener’s men are throwing their weight aroun. *The Queen Ship Yards - Only recently the MacQueen Shipyards, the yards are expanding as they look towards building steam powered iron clad and iron ships. The yards are busy day and night. *Star City Train Station - Three train lines run into Star, one that runs east to Kansas, the other two that run north and south along the coast. A large structure of stone and iron, it is three stories tall with a clock tower that raises up another two story, making it even taller than the church spires of the city. It is in the center of town, at the head of the main street. *Lucky Phoenix (The Reliable and Lucky Phoenix Bank and Investment Council) - In the China Town in the Triangle there is a building which has an English name that does not explain its purpose as well as the Chinese name. It is a local bank for the Chinese Immigrants, some place where they can deposit what they make and actually make interest as the Lucky Phoenix invest their money in projects that benefit the Chinese community. The plain look of the exterior belies the fact that is has been built like a fortress.
