Emotion: Hope

Sara Aldred was the daughter of a white father and black mother, who for most of her life had lived a comfortable middle-class existence. She had a passion for art, and was thrilled when her artistic talents won her a scholarship to a prestigious London school.

Little did she know how badly everything was about to go downhill.

She was unable to make friends at her new school – the wealthy students there seemed to resent the fact that a “commoner” was attending their school, and she became their designated bullying target. At the same time, her father started acting… different. Suddenly, he was irritable more and more of the time, and he and her mother got into arguments with ever-increasing frequency.

And then, THAT night came. Sara was in her room doing homework, when she was distracted by a scream from her mother. Sara watched as her father changed into… something that attacked her mother.

And then, to her shame, she ran.

Sara then had to adjust to living on the streets. Fortunately for her, she wasn’t the only kid in the same situation. The other street kids showed her how to survive, they became friends, and unlike the kids at her school, they didn’t look down on her! They even believed her when she worked up the courage to talk about what happened. Apparently a lot of them had seen the monsters as well… not that anyone but other street kids would believe them.

But the street kids were also targets for the monsters, either being attacked or simply disappearing. Sara wished to find a way to protect her new friends… and soon, her wish was granted. When Sara confided in Alice, a worker at one of the homeless shelters she occasionally stayed at, Alice revealed her past as a magical girl. Charging Sara with the protection of the other street kids, Alice passed her powers on to her, and Sara became the new Street Angel.

Since she ran away from home, Sara has also channeled her passion for painting into street art. She sells some of it at art markets, earning a small amount of money but nowhere near enough to be called a living. Her art, however, is more than decorative – she aims to use it to inspire her fellow street kids, to give them hope and let them know that she cares about them. Her pieces also serve as warnings to the monsters – the message “Defended by S.A.S.” often appears in areas she frequents.
