GROUPS OF PEOPLE

Hiording Clan - This clan of about 800 people inhabits the upper Swanvale. They raise grain in the lowlands and herd cattle and sheep in the Thunder Hills. They were the first outside clan to join the Colymar tribe. The hamlet of Apple Lane—with its market, inn, and Uleria temple—is within their clan lands. Sometimes called the “Swansons” or “Swancloaks,” the members of this clan are descendants of Hiord and Safeela, a swan maiden. He stole her magical wrap, and so she stayed with him for seven years, and their children head the main bloodlines of the clan. The women of the clan receive a cloak of swan feathers at their initiation and wear it whenever they are to be seen by outsiders. The clan Earth priestess speaks to the clan wyter, which resides in a cloak of swan feathers worn by her. The chieftain is the clan’s Storm Voice and serves as warleader and judge.

Somehow, Kallyr Starbrow leads heroquesters to invade the Lunar ceremony and summons a True Dragon beneath the temple. The Brown Dragon devours the temple and those in attendance, annihilating Lunar might in the Provinces in an instant. Among those it devours is the Colymar's usurper King Kangharl Blackmoor. It flies into the sky, circles the heavens and eventually returns. The Dragonrise, seen far and wide, has brought back memories of the Empire of Wyrm's Friends and set into train ancient curses, cosmic defences, secret plans and doomsday rituals.

With the collapse of Lunar rule in Dragon Pass, many take to banditry and old clan and tribal rivalries re-emerge. Fazzur leads a Lunar Tarsh army against the Free Sartar Army but retreats to Dunstop after learning that many of his kin and supporters have been murdered in Tarsh. In Old Tarsh, the Shaker Priestess appoint a new King of Wintertop over Fazzur's son Onjur. Meanwhile, across Dragon Pass, the harvest is under way for normal folk.
: - Andrik fights beside his brother again in the liberation of Sartar, with Broalar. Anrik's brother Kelf dies and Andrik and Broalar nearly share his fate, Andrik marked by long scar on his face and Broalar also scarred.
