Dear Laura, Hello. I wanted to keep you updated on my progress (since I'm sure you've been waiting with bated breath...) in Russia. The good news, for me, is that I'm going to be leaving the country soon. We may be flying out via aeroplane, which sounds pretty exciting. I've recently summoned up an Outsider, named Prometheus. It will likely be some time before I do so again. In order to (meaningfully) communicate with him this last time, I was forced to have Rebecca act as a 'conduit'. I do not believe I can countenance such activity in the future, as it is too dangerous and damaging. I could obviate the necessity for a conduit by permanently accepting a 'piece' of an Outsider. However, this idea appears to be a nonstarter, since several people have told me that they would kill me if I did so. I was also a bit disappointed with the results of our talk on a topic that is close to my heart. Since I have obtained a better idea of what is happening in the world, it has been my desire to find some common ground between the Outsiders and 'Us'. My discussion with Prometheus leads me to believe that finding this ground may prove impossible. I do not, yet, plan to abandon seeking a peaceful resolution, but it was certainly demoralizing and, coupled with the damage summoning causes my allies, my inclination to summon has been drastically curtailed. I should also mention that, while speaking with Prometheus, I decided at the last moment that I would not ask him about Donal. It struck me that I might endanger him by indicating my interest in him to the Outside. I have enough viable leads that taking this risk seemed unnecessary. Well, since I don't have too much of excitement to report, I will (mercifully?) keep this letter short. As always, I hope things are going well for you in France. I'll write to you again soon. Your friend, Redland Jack
