* [[TheStarsAreRight:RedlandJack|Return to Redland Jack's page]] I have found myself feeling protective towards the women we have encountered and I'm wondering if I'm being inappropriately paternalistic because of their gender.
Regardless of my eventual course of action, I need to examine my behavior and ascertain whether it is correctly motivated or not. Doing the right thing for the wrong reason is still wrong...

I've had some time to reflect on this, and I think I've come to some conclusions:
1) I don't think I'm acting in a paternalistic fashion... at least not inappropriately so.
2) I seem to have a greater... affinity for women than I do for men. I'm not sure how to describe it, exactly, but I suppose I just feel more comfortable. This certainly comes as a surprise to me.
3) The women I've met recently seem to have issues about which I can do something. Further, it appears as though no one else will do anything if I don't.
4) In particular, Rebecca was, at one time, my friend, Laura, I feel, is our responsibility, and I consider Meridon a friend. I find it's not really important how they feel about me, but only how I feel about them. (I.e., if Alanna needed help for any reason, I'd be there)
5) It feels nice to help people out, and until I can get back to my research it's easy to help others, since there's nothing I can do on my own behalf while I'm off saving the world.
6) It's a nice distraction from my own mess of a life.
