== History ==


The Dark Cabinet is also known as '''The Karrnath Intelligence Secret Service''' or KISS.  For obvious reasons, the intimidation minded individuals prefer the more somber nickname and have even adopted the anacronym for the better pursuit of their duties.  Nevertheless, it's stated that those who are taken by the Dark Cabinet have been taken by the KISS of Death.

The Dark Cabinet is, unfortunately, nothing more than a puppet agency for the '''Emerald Claw'''.  Most of its former duties were performed by the Emerald Claw before that agency was exiled and many of its ranks were agents that decided to remain with the King.  Nevertheless, these agents have since gone on to fill out the upper ranks of the Dark Cabinet and have helped hundreds of Emerald Claw infilitrators into the group.

King Kaius is aware that the Dark Cabinet has been infiltrated but has no idea to genuine extent due to the fact that undead, obscene rituals, and plots for world domination are really part and parcel for the intelligence agency he wants.  Almost everything that the Dark Cabinet learns is immediately passed along to Erandis D'Vol's minions and they turn a blind eye to her growing power in the nation.


== Departments ==


The Dark Cabinet is the most powerful organization in Karrnath after the King and the military.  It maintains its own private military force called the '''Wulffen-Dark Cabinet'''.  Wuffen-Dark Cabinet members are, by and large, inferior to regular Karrnath soldiery whom are some of the best in the world.  The Dark Cabinet selects its members for idealogical purity over skill and most of its recruits are drawn from those who couldn't make it in the regular military or whom (ironically) were less loyal to the government but noted that the Dark Cabinet paid better.

Also noteworthy is the '''Stosstorpen.''' The Stosstorpen are a Wizard Secret Police that use ''ESP'' and other powers to interrogate their enemies.  The Stosstorpen reject the '''Arcane Congress''' and regulate all other wizards in Karrnath.  The Stosstorpen also conduct many grizzly magical experiments and are in charge of producing most of the undead in Karrnath.  They are the largest group after the Wuffen-Dark Cabinet and the rank and file bureaucrats.  Finally, the '''Kaius Youth''' adopts orphans of the Last War and raises them to be future members of the body.

The Dark Cabinet dwarfs the size of other national intelligence agencies and is approximately ten times the size of the next largest in the '''Royal Eyes'''.  This is due to the fact that the Dark Cabinet's primary mission is not to spy on other nations but to spy on the citizenry of Karrnath.  It supervises the City Guards, Hospital, and Militaries of Karrnath (the later agents often meeting 'accidents' in the field during the Last War).


== Leadership ==


The Dark Cabinet is controlled by '''Regent Morenn''' officially and she routinely conducts idealogical purges of its members.  Unfortunately, this is used to tighten the grip of the Emerald Claw on the group with its 2nd in command, '''Baronness Anna Morgan''' (LE Human Female Psionicist 9/Spy 9) being one of the Crimson Covenant of the Emerald Claw and like a daughter to her.
