Budon was birthed in the birthing chambers in the Belross region of Benzar but immediately after birth they were moved to a remote colony with their parents for a long-term research assignment.

Budon stayed on the colony and became involved in the search of the world's flora and fauna from a young age but gradually drifted toward researching the red giant sun. Research and study suited them well but the politics of the colony kept their parents and them as lower level scientists for the entire three decade aging process before adulthood. This led to a bit of distrust of command structures compared to a normal Benzite.

Benzar was not a member of the Federation when Budon came of age but it was a close ally and well regarded so Budon requested leave from their research assignment to join a Starfleet research project as an intern studying stellar phenomena aboard the USS Darwin.

During their time on Darwin the ship was assigned to study a star going through the early phases of a supernova. The star going supernova was going to destroy all life in 14 nearby star systems including 4 pre-warp civilizations. Budon worked with the USS Darwin's science crew and developed a model for Type II Supernovas that was able to predict an amount of added mass to the stellar corona that would stop the supernova and the star would expand into a red dwarf instead.

After the completion of the research internship Budon started at Starfleet Academy officially. Budon's species had just had their first member join with Murdock the previous year and Budon was one of several Benzites joining Starfleet. Budon didn't associate with the other Benzites much as they were all from Benzar proper and Budon had never even visited since being birthed.

Budon's first assignment was as an Engineer aboard the USS Moray. Over Budon's 2 years posted on the Moray Budon grew very close to their superior officer, a Vulcan named Honvil. The Moray was researching unusual subspace phenomena when it was hit with an inexplicable subspace rift that killed a dozen crew members and destroyed all ship systems including Lt. Commander Honvil. The subspace rift tore holes in the warp system and knocked off most ship systems including communication. Budon took charge of engineering to eject the warp core before evacuating engineering. Budon took it very hard, especially as the deaths from the incident were random and senseless. They recuperated at Starbase 11 while the Moray was repaired and the crew was added but after working with the new Engineering chief for a short time Budon chose to transfer to the USS Mandela to get their dream assignment as a Science Officer.
