Back to Miscellaneous Setting Information The Monster War actually began as a mostly conventional war between several nations in the southern half of Africa under a decade ago. Most sides had a few mutant supersoldiers among their ranks, but even so, it was mostly a war of normal soldiers. The war raged for several years, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties (most of them civilians) and tearing local economies and societies apart. Then, about two years ago, Doctor Norton entered the scene. Using highly advanced biotechnology, Dr. Norton was able to create her own army of super-humanly powerful creatures, which most people call "monsters" (to be fair, the creatures - which are basically giant rodents - are rather disturbing). Using her growing army of monsters, she has managed to defeat both several supersoldiers and large conventional armies, establishing a large "pacified zone" (sometimes referred by the media as the "monster zone"). The other factions in the conflict have been joining forces against her, but even so, Dr. Norton seems to be inexorably winning the war. Opinions in the Western world diverge concerning the Monster War. No-one is truly comfortable with Norton's bio-engineered war beasts, but it has been observed nonetheless that she is putting a halt to atrocities committed against civilians, and is investing in rebuilding infrastructures within the pacified zone. Omnicorp in particular have been dealing with her, offering both weapons to win the war and funds to rebuild infrastructures in exchange for access to some of the area's natural resources.
