Back to [[Setting History]] One needs to keep in mind that the political situation of the Avatar's World is a bit different from ours. America may be the main geopolitical superpower, but it has less clout than in our world, for several reasons (first, because mutants appear among the population of any country, regardless of wealth and technological level; second, because technological supremacy goes to Venture City, with America coming in second; third, because losing Pittsburgh to Professor Cryo hurt America on the diplomatic scene). That said, the War on Terror went roughly as follows: The 9/11 attack comprised both the hijacking of four planes, and a small squad of Al-Quaida mutants rampaging through New York's subway system. It did not go as planned, however - while the first plane did crash into one of twin towers, and over two hundred civilians were killed in the subway before superheroes defeated them, the second plane was stopped mid-air by [[Techno-Paladin]] and [[Vigilance]] while [[Doctor Hex]] was putting out the fire and cooling down the structure of the damaged tower, preventing it from collapsing. The remaining two planes were stopped by [[The Avatar]]. While there was some shock, it wasn't the biggest media event of the year - not in a world full of supervillains. It was nevertheless enough for America to declare war on the Talibans after they refused to give them the leaders of Al-Quaida. [[Tracer Pulse]], while not a member of the military, found and arrested Bin Laden less than 24 hours after the war had been declared, and, like in our world, the Talibans couldn't stop the American forces. As in our world, the war in Afghanistan was eventually followed by a war in Iraq, for roughly the same official reasons, and with roughly the same results. That conflict saw the first deployment of the [[Omnicorp]] [[Mecha-Tanks]], which annihilated Hussein's super-powered Honor Guard. There hasn't been much noise from Al-Quaida and other such groups recently - especially not since the destruction of Jerusalem, which came as a shock to the believers of all the abrahamic religions.
