Nakik, the Deepstalker, Commodore of the Deliberative's Western Navies, died a hero. Leviathan spoke at the memorial held a year after his death deep in the Wyld. The grim, taciturn but cunning warrior, devoted husband and mate, and contemporary to some of the most prominent Lunars in the First Age passed from Creation honored and well regarded by all, spared from the pain and anguish that many Lunars would have to live through, seeing their mates murdered and their nations fall.

Perhaps it was a final act of vanity that kept k'Tula in her human form when the agents of the Usurpation finally came for her, not wanting to see disgust and revulsion written on the face of the Sidereal assassin as he watched the light fade from her cold, inhuman eyes. Or perhaps it was a last moment of maternal instinct, to hide her children's secret, and let them slip away into obscurity. Of the dozens of small battles that took place in the days following the Calibration massacre, hers was neither violent nor heart-wrenching, and her body was laid beside her husband's empty tomb.

The question of whether or not Nakik's shard was irrevocably tainted by k'Tula's experimentation was never fully resolved. In the blood-soaked days after the collapse of the First Age, Lytek had much on his mind, as the occasional trickle of a dead Celestial shard turned into a vast torrent, even after the Solars were imprisoned. It was just another Lunar shard, albeit one in dire need of mending, but given how long it had stayed in the Wyld - and the condition many of the returning Lunar shards were in once they were driven to exile, it was not seen as peculiar, and passed to its next host.<br><br>

Driven to the edges of the Wyld and warped into a chimera before the nascent Silver Pact could apply the protective tattoos - killed in madness. And the next, killed by a sworn brotherhood of Terrestrials on the edge of the Blessed Isle.<br><br>

Joren Kai was born to a camp-follower who earned her living at the fringes of a prominent mercenary legion, his father one of several soldiers who favored her company. The boy grew up as such children often do, earning a few coins mending armor, running errands and generally trying to draw the eyes of one of the officers, trying to be made a standard bearer or courier when they came of age. Strong and clever, he earned a place carrying the standard for the captain of one of the light infantry companies, earning a decent living for himself and his aging mother. Under the tutelage of those soldiers, Joren learned of war and combat, of women, and the value of a man's word.<br><br>

He also learned that mortal mercenaries, no matter how skilled, are no match for the Fair Folk. A day of blood and madness ended with the young man hunched over, a gloved hand holding his guts in while the other weakly braced a banner. The smell of smoke faded for a moment, replaced with the clean scent of a night rain, and he opened his eyes to see an unfathomably beautiful woman, dressed in a silver gown, standing before him, barefoot and oblivious to the carnage around her. Thinking her one of the Fair Folk, the boy gripped the banner tighter, bracing himself for the end. Instead, she simply kissed his brow, and spoke.<br><br>

Rescued from the field by a retrieval pack, tattooed and given his caste, any opportunity to find himself again was lost as the endless throngs of Fair Folk spilled over the Border Marches, signaling the end of the Shogunate. The Wolf at the Worlds Edge, like many of his kind, sallied forth at the fringe of a Creation that no longer looked to them for protection to do what they could. He has never turned back from that war, losing himself utterly in an endless tide of battle with the Fair Folk, emerging once in a great while during the reign of the Scarlet Empress, each time met with surprise that he had not succumbed by now. Not an Elder, and oddly apart from the younger Lunars who feel the turning of the Age more keenly, Wolf has lingered in Creation longer than he often has. Something is tethering him here. Something he needs to find.<br><br>
