The World Tree is a massive campaign built originally for D&D 4e in 2013 by user Tank7563.  Now, it is a complete adventure for 5e filled with 14 potential "acts" or modules that make a single cohesive story surrounding the World Tree and Magnus' evil forces.

Plot Summary
The World Tree is set within its own campaign setting, but holds true to D&D's setting of planes and race desprictions (with an exception to the Drow, being descendants of the moon). In The World Tree, the adventurers encounter a number of decision points and problems while attempting to locate the World Tree and trying to stop Magnus. As the scenario begins, the players are told that a powerful necromancer named Magnus is attempting to find and destroy the World Tree, effectively destroying all life on the Material Plane.  Player characters must survive the wrath of Magnus, the cannibals from the southern powers, and other dark organizations to save all life in the world.

The module is divided into 16 story arcs (described as acts) and 48 scenes, beginning with a summoning of the characters and ending with the saving of The World Tree, should the players succeed.

In the World Tree adventure, there are only a few characteristics that are different from the campaign.  This concept is to be able to release the Dungeon Master and the players from the exact history of the realm by rewriting it, but allows for other adventures to be involved within the setting.

Worship of the gods has been a less than common occurrence, with only simple holidays to celebrate the greater deities.  These deities have been described in different regions as being related to one another, with Katasis, goddess of the sun, and Vareus, god of moonlight creating them.  The following is an excerpt from the lore:

<blockquote>

<blockquote>
  "Katasis and Vareus fought for ownership of the skies for ten centuries; the sparks of their blades creating the stars in the dark sky.  After the passing of the ten-day, they defeated one another, with the pieces of their spirits forming the sun and moon, greater and lesser deities, and the soul of the sentient beings."

These deities are divided into three categories: The Great Divine, The Warspawn, and The Lesser Five.

The Great Divine
The second generation of gods, created from the will and drive of Katasis and Vareus. This category holds all gods and goddesses who were either formed from these two (except for Penur, son of Althum and Hasdum). These deities have little to no impact on the Material Plane or echo planes, sending their Warspawn, Lesser Five, or devout followers to do their bidding.

Racism is not very significant in this campaign, with orcs being considered sentient beings (though many tribes are evil, not all share this alignment).

New haven
Located west of the Tallaia Mountains, New Haven is the most recent acquisition of Kusha, after signing a peace treaty with the Aarakocran tribes that dwell within the mountains. After discovering land west of the mountains, New Haven has become the frontier for trade and produce, dealing with many unique situations of their own. This area is teeming with rivers, natural minerals, and coastal lands, but struggles to survive due to poor farm ground, dangerous beasts, and some hostile Aarakocran tribes, who refuse to allow "outsiders" to settle there.

Shade Lands
Located centrally of the country, the Shade Lands holds the largest expanse of desert region in the area, with villages and settlements working together to survive in the hostile lands. Holding the capitol of Kusha, this land is rich with trade from distant lands, skilled craftsmen, and unique agriculture. Life here is difficult, but the Shade Lands hold a hardy people that hold teamwork and acceptance as their highest ideas.  Where villages and settlements may be safe from the elements, this land struggles with traveling and caravans, losing many to the harsh storms, lack of water, and ferocious desert beasts.

History
Originally settled by the Azer, the Shade Lands was paramount in its trade with the Old World, crafting and trading many of the needed weapons and materials to fight with the Great Freeze. As the Azer expanded, large amounts of bronze and electrum were found buried beneath its sands, causing the other natives, the Efreeti, to claim a dynasty over the region and to submit the Azer to mining these goods for their building of the "City of Brass" in the elemental plane of fire. After a failed holy crusade by Demedor of the Old World Crusaders, the Efreeti ruled the Shadelands for over 300 years, mining the bronze beneath its land, until the Azer were nothing but a memory. Their greed, however, blinded them from the others in this world. Fire giants from the Tajzina Mountains invaded from the mountain and claimed the Shadelands by force, banishing the Efreeti to the Plane of Fire. These fire giants ruled for almost five centuries, using the forges of the Efreeti and using their created salamanders as its fuel. It was in this moment, when Kusha seemed hopeless, that Demedor traded with the long forgotten Azer of a way to survive the land and to smite the fire giants from where they came. One by one, the mighty army of Demedor captured each of its cities. It was not until Ar'dabh fell, that the fire giants surrendered and agreed to leave the Shade Lands.

Tan Sheng Flats
Located east of the Tajzina Mountains, the Tan Sheng Flats is a land formerly under its own rule, uniting with Kusha for its unique trade and goods. These flats return an oasis from the harsh lands of Kusha with the settlements within housing a paradise far from the ways of the growing powers. The Tan Sheng Flats hold unique architecture, coastal lands, and peaceful people, sharing and giving to one another as equals. This "paradise", however, does not come without its flaws. The people are kind but ignorant to the ways of manipulation and corruption, with the Jinchou woods said to hold great evils yet to be banished from their lands. The settlements require their own protection, usually housing monks or priests armed with combat and magic to protect them. This protection, however, is based within ancient studies, easily stopped by modern inventions and tools.

Points of Interest
Kelmorn, as the gnomes call it, is the surface world of the country of Ikhael, housing several rivers, a mountain range, and island encompassed within its government, excluding the underground cities. Kelmorn is a land of rich mineral deposits and dense forestland, providing a perfect environment for the large density of gnomes living within this region. Kelmorn holds a large amount of coast land as well, but trade is limited to large vehicles, due to Old Axas bordering its western borders, and the Wilds and inhospitable mountain and desert lands bordering the North. The major exports of Kelmorn include trinkets and inventions and unique mechanical items and minerals, causing resources to be largely used within, exporting as much as possible while importing only necessities not found within Ikhael's borders. This land is rich with opportunity, but lacks the manpower to centralize the government of the cities, due to the dense forests and wildlife they contain. Many corrupted officials take complete control of many of the cities, with unique taxes and laws. Bandits lay claim to the gnome inventions, turning them against the civilized people to profit at maximum. The forests cause travel to be dangerous, for the charlatans and commoners alike, due to the fauna that makes the woodland as its home.

Undgrin Ankor
The dwarven kingdom of Ikhael, Undgrin Ankor (roughly translated to "underground passage") is where the great cities of the dwarves hold claim, with mines stretching deep to the edges of the underdark to mine the rare minerals and ores found within. Undgrin Ankor holds a self contained environment, with a unified structure stretching throughout the entire kingdom, allowing for laws to hold value between the passages to them. The cities of Undgrin Ankor hold a variety of architectural wonders as well as direct passage to Ethir, but they hold risks of their own.  Before claiming the mountains as their home, many of the denizens within are left untouched within the forgotten mines or natural cave systems that web from the main travels. Getting lost can be common due to lack of direction and defensive structure of many of the passageways, with the cities only allowing true dwarves and gnomes into their lower sanctums. Eager for their gold and ores, the dwarves mine dangerously into portions of the Underdark, where creatures may seek new prey as their homes are opened to the cities. A place of wonder and mystery, Undgrin Ankor holds a true subterranean world.
