Delryn was raised a commoner on the edge of the Eastern Steppes. He was not content with his lot in life. He resented the nobles their position and authority, and he had no interest in helping his parents and siblings run the inn. He wanted to be the one traveling, having adventures, and staying at inns! He ran off and fell into various sorts of trouble, achieving some slight fame in his backwater region for his sharp tongue and effective tactics.

But eventually the trouble became too much. Delryn said fled the area, eventually encountering the Horgaling clan of Dwarves. They solved whatever immediate danger Delryn was facing (his stories about it always seem to vary) in exchange for his promise to aid one of their nobles, Kurgan Bristle-Beard.
