====== Thrice-Radiant Ping ====== Thrice-Radiant Ping is a character in the ZaijianHoneyBlues campaign of the Nihao Honey universe. Played by Ben Sattler, Ping is a student in the Black Crane High. ===== About the Character ===== When she made the choice to become Baneful at a very early age, Thrice-Radiant Ping really didn't realize what she was signing up for. Ever since that conscious choice she has been spiritually marked with the disfavor of both Heaven and Hell. People react to her negatively, even if they don't realize why. This in turn has resulted in a rough life forging her personality and outlook. It doesn't help that she was raised in a state-operated orphanarium. Her core belief is that she cannot rely on anything other than herself. This anything ranges from Heaven itself all the way down through other people and finishes with simple things like weapons and armor. ===== Appearance ===== Ebon black hair cut collar-length frame eyes the color of green jade. Beneath the left eye a black dragon tattoo coils (cause nothing says anime like a facial tattoo!) Her features and physique are toned through constant exercise. She fills out the uniform of the school without modification and keeps it in good condition (clothes cost money!) She is often caught with a defiant glint in her eye, and her body-language is withdrawn, though she moves with an unconscious grace. (The art of her is from the manga Black Cat, written by Kentaro Yabuki. I don't own it etc.) ===== Kung Fu ===== Thrice-Radiant Ping uses the brutal Iron Fists style, backed up by the quick-hitting Eagle Claw style and the elusive Cloud Mastery. Her Lightfoot is adequate at best, and sometimes she struggles to keep up with her fellow students. Her techniques are unsubtle and violent, often displaying a preference toward might over grace. Her signature style is based on Confidence, and reflects her Baneful nature in a number of defensive options. Pings Signature Style =====Game stats===== For full stats, see Ping's_Character_Sheet. ===== Personal Life ===== Iron Seraph is the 'guy' of the story and it is with him that we will start. He is studious, competant, loyal to his friends, and 'mine' level sexy. However he and Ping have a rocky past due to a number of differences. First, Seraph is a warrior for Heaven, seeking out its enemies and standing his ground against the forces of darkness. While Ping is not evil, she does wish to follow in the footsteps of her role-model Kuafu and topple the Immortal Emperor from his throne. Part of this conflict takes place verbally as Iron Seraph tries to bring Ping around to a more traditional (and people-friendly) point of view. Part of the conflict has also become physical as he sought to protect her from devious Hell agents by knocking her out of a tournament in a back-room brawl. Another issue between them is the threat Iron Seraph poses to her self-confidence. Between his dedication toward her and a very real attraction toward him, Ping is often tempted to break from her solitary lifestyle. She believes that this temptation is weakening her, and resents him for it. Red Star Dervish is a street-wise ganger-girl who 'knows people.' Ping often goes to talk things over with her when she is unsure how to proceed. Despite her tendancy to incert foot into mouth around people, Ping hasn't managed to chase her away yet. After one particularilly bad arguement with her fellow students, Ping has even asked Dervish to act as a Jimminy-Cricket style external conscience for her. Lately, rising jealosy over the attention of Iron Seraph has led to something of a falling out between the two, though how long it will last remains to be seen. ===== Personality ===== Strength is what Ping strives for. Yes, its somewhat stereotypical and perhaps even a little cheesy, but Ping hasn't ever really concerned herself with being 'cool.' Strength can be measured, her growth something she can observe. Strength... is the projection of her will on her surroundings. Ping had her trust taken advantage of by her first 'boyfriend.' She was ten at the time, and she was so suprised and flattered that she wasn't ostrasized out of hand (the typical reaction of often cruel kids toward someone different from them) that she let her guard down. Her first clue something was wrong was being called in to the headmasters office to explain some rather disrespectful thoughts on both the headmaster and most of the staff. Thoughts detailed in her diary which he had somehow gotten hold of. The so-called friend recieved glowing recommendations and scholarships, putting him on the fast track toward a successful political career. Ping recieved a valuable lesson in relying on others. Ping is often unpredictable. She tends to reason in leaps and bounds, and often she skips ahead in conversations without verbalizing the thought-process that builds the foundation for where she is now. Her responses to events range from normal to non-sequitor. Often she doesn't understand why her point of view isn't shared by everyone else. Its not that she isn't thinking things through, its simply a case of interpertation. As Ping was raised in an environment that didn't endear her to authority, she has somewhat different thoughts on the ultimate authority, Heaven. She sincerely believes that Heaven is stifling human potential for its own peace and quiet, and that Thoughtful Wren is one of the worst traitors in history. ===== Philosophy/Beliefs ===== Strength Through Struggle: Ping once described this philosophy as the difference between a domesticated dog and a wolf. The dog is raised from birth being given the things it needs. If it is hungry, it whines until its owner feeds it. It is taught that the leash is its only link to freedom. The wolf must meet its own needs. Its life is certainly harder, but in turn develops skills necessary for survival. It learns how to stalk its food, or it does not eat. The struggles make it stronger, and unlike the dog it is able to survive without a master. Everyone Will Betray You in the End: Ping has trust issues. She believes that people are influenced by their own wants, desires, or interests; and that people are all sufficiently different that sooner or later those differences will lead to conflicts of interest. She works to reduce the inevitable fallout from these betrayals by only forming superficial relationships. She pratices thinking about people in negative ways to help with this, figuring that expecting the worst will prevent it from being a suprise when it happens. She also has similar beliefs in regard to possessions. If you rely on your car to get around, you are helpless when it breaks down. If you focus on fighting with the sword, you are vulnerable when it is not available, or when you are disarmed. Morality: Ping would like to think that morals are heavens way of keeping humanity from "interrupting the Jade Emperor's Tea." She has had virtues used against her by other students and disreputable faculty members as an excuse for singling her out for punishment. Therefore its not much of a suprise that she sees these niceties as something dishonest people use to swindle the gullible. She may even be partially right, though she tends to blend actual morals or virtues with social mores and traditions. ===== Trivia ===== Ping is not the first person to have her particular Legacy, but it has not been seen for hundreds of years. The dragon tattoo on her left cheek has been with her as far back as she can remember. As she grows, the tattoo seems to adjust as well, as it remains as precise and undistorted now as it did when she was four years old. Someone seems to be watching out for Ping every now and then. Despite her poor reputation she was granted admission into Black Crane High, and she was given an unusual number of weak opponents in a highly-publicized tournament. Part of her hero-worship of Kuafu is shown in her vegetarian diet and tenancy to copy his style of speech. ===== Theme Song ===== Indestructible (Return Home)
