Back to Main Page: [[To Wander Beneath A Far Star]] Little is known of the mysterious lands to the East. They lie beyond Lands of the Giants and Demi-Giants, beyond where the Wild Men once dwelt, and beyond the crumbling cities of the elves. Some call this area the Wilderlands. Between the Uttermost War and the War of the Pious and the Philosophers, a great empire known as Kelnore ruled the Wilderlands. Eventually it was laid low by barbarians, but the Successor States of Ghinor maintained order and civilization is some areas until they too fell. Much as is the case in our own lands, nearly all knowledge was lost during the War of the Pious and the Philosophers. At around this time, a wicked race known as the Dragon Kings subjugated many cities and made war on many peoples. The groans of the subjugated rose to the heavens, and tales of the wealth of the Dragon Kings spread for hundreds of leagues until greedy barbarians finally laid waste to their land and slew nineteen out of every twenty Dragon Kings. Soon a new empire arose, that of Viridistan. Viridistan's emperors still rule the Wilderlands today. They are an ancient and foul race who worship strange and cruel gods and have unwholesome dealings with the merfolk. They are also rich beyond measure, and much trade flows in and out of their chief city, The City of Spices. Their emperor styles himself the World Emperor and attacks with great power all who challenge him. In the Wilderlands, the Common Tongue is related to the tongue of the Tharbrians. The Tharbrians moved west and assailed our own lands many times in past millenia, so it stands to reason that they must also have moved east and done the same in the Wilderlands. The Empire of Viridistan survived their onslaught, as many thrones in our own lands did not. Little more is known of the Wilderlands. It is said that a new tyrant has arisen to contend with the World Emperor of Viridistan. East of the Wilderlands there is said to be a land called Karak, where sorcery flows like water and even the wives of peasants wear silk.
