Islamism is the dominant political rhetoric of communities throughout continental Europe, nearly all of Asia and much of Africa. A radical form called ''Islamist Fundamentalism'' has become a dominant force in isolated muslim communities on the fringes of the Muslim world, particularly Australia, North America and the British Isles. ''Mainstream Islamist'' communities see the culture of Islam as a sustainable alternative to the failed culture of the West. In practice these communities generally have agrarian economies and pay tribute to the same warlords as everyone else. The ''Unified Islamist Caliphate'' in Basra is the intellectual center of Mainstream Islamism. Critics point out that the UIC is "Not Unified. Not Islamist. Not a Caliphate." Fundamentalist Islamism is more common in regions where Muslim communities are in the minority, especially the English-speaking countries. It promotes the same economic theory but calls for strict enforcement of cultural traditions.
