'''Dr. Fulton Tulley''' (Ollie) '''Obsession:''' His “Personal Museum” Dr. Tulley is in some ways a stereotypical history professor: he favors fuzzy sweater-vests, enthuses about things that other people find rather dull, and is positively brilliant… when he’s paying attention. However, there is a reason why, despite his dedication and extensive education, he’s failed to become a preeminent scholar or even land a position at a decent research university: his interest in uncovering new historical facts and publishing new ideas is eclipsed by his fascination with old objects. Fulton has a number of collections in his “personal museum” that he obsesses over expanding, even to the neglect of his more conventionally scholarly pursuits. He is enthralled by the physical presence of history in front of him, and the more complete the collection, the more it seems that he is witnessing the whole of its history. Fulton’s collection mania also mars his career by making it impossible for him to focus his studies; he has written articles on things like “the similarities and differences in the development of gendered garments in Western and Eastern societies,” “artwork in pre-agricultural African cultures,” and “the textual and publication history of religious texts” (to name a few), and he of course has an ever-growing “exhibit” pertaining to each. Naturally, Dr. Tulley’s basic passion is learning and teaching – he sees his “museum approach” as a necessary (but as-yet unappreciated) refinement to the typical methods used in the pedagogy of history. He’d never admit it, but given his lack of academic success, Fulton’s collections are the only thing that give his life any meaning, and as a result he is as dedicated to expanding them as he is terrified of losing them.
