A place not too far from the eternal cold, yet far enough that high summer's warmth flushed the meadows with flowers and honey bees in the month of Descending Fire. Life here had often been troubled: the countryside was lawless, save when one warlord acquired enough power to impose a brief rule of might before being succeeded by anarchy or some other brief warlord; Wyld mutants, slavers and monsters roamed the wildlands, preying on the weak and unwary. Delicate Jasmine grew up an orphan, raised by her aunts and uncles; her mother died in childbirth, and her father, a hunter, was killed by a giant boar when she was two years old. Still, for a time, she knew happiness: family was a gang of cousins, and her mother's younger sister treated her almost like a mother would. Growing up stronger and taller than most of the other children, she quickly came to be the first amongst them, alpha of the pack. And for some time, peace reigned over the village: an Immaculate Dragon-Blooded hermit had chosen to take up residence in the woods nearby, perhaps seeking seclusion to meditate upon his enlightenment. The old monk was the model of Immaculate ideals: a compassionate healer whose medicinal Charms saved many from illness or the risks of childbirth, and whose martial prowess kept raiders and other predators at bay. The children where fascinated by him, and though he made a pretence of ill-tolerating their presence and always yelled at them to go back to their chores like good children ought to be, he never sent them away when he began his training sessions; soon acquiring a small unofficial class of children keen to imitate their glorious protector. So Jasmine grew up into a strong, athletic and well-trained girl, keen to become an adult, and a hunter for her tribe. Yet on the night before her adulthood ceremony and marriage (for it traditional amongst her people for the two to be combined), tragedy struck: a large mob of hobgoblins and mutants attacked, mindless and frenzied in their bloodlust and violence. Attacking in the darkness, they overwhelmed the tribe's guards on the wooden pallisades and came screaming and hungry amongst the huts and tents around the camp fires to kill and pillage. ==Notes==
