Somewhere in the great forests of the north, bordering the town of Sandpoint, is the Elvish land of Velikiles. The humans know nothing of how these "wild" elves live, and rumors range from hidden cities to villages hidden in the treetops. Those humans who attempt to find their homeland have been captured and returned to the Sheriff of Sandpoint for punishment (usually a firm talking to about the risks of angering the town's elven allies). Unlike the "civilized" elves of marvelous cities of Lide, the elves of Velkiles live close to nature and are expert trackers and hunters. Of course this impression may not be fully accurate, as the primary contact with the town of Sandpoint is Militsa, a ranger who guards the border closest to the town. In fact the human impression is closer to truth than expected. When the Uruk Empire captured the ancient cities of the elves and the survivors retreated North and West to heart of their old empire, the woodsman and outlying villagers took to the wild forests and waited. In the passage of generations these Elves formed a loose, martial society of hidden villages, guarded by solitary scouts and fighters who range through side swaths of the forest to ensure no one finds their secret homeland. Unlike their urban cousins they have sworn their devotion to Leshak, the Elvish god of the forests, living as close kin the his sacred wolves (a fact that has occasionally led to accusations of lycanthropy and resulting, entirely unsuccessful, monster hunts). It is an often harsh and lonely life, but the Velkiles elves have formed a society that is a warm and enduring as the ties of family or pack.
