| + | Zeva was born the second of three children to an Aldin family of coastal merchants, and deserted their comfortable life for the seas in her late teens. She started out working her way up the ladder on trading vessels, but when her ship fell prey to pirates, she decided necessity was the better part of valour and joined the pirate crew. She met her first love, a Lar'tyan woman called Shada, on that ship, but Shada was deeply preoccupied with mortality and finding a means to escape it. While they were ferrying a Kernish artefact to an interested buyer, Shada wanted to turn mutinous and steal it for themselves, taken with the notion that it would help her towards her goal. Zeva believed she had persuaded her love to turn back from this course, but Shada carried out the mutiny regardless and escaped with the artefact and a third of the crew, leaving Zeva with a deep flesh wound and a broken heart. | ||
