As a child, she developed a strong sense of patriotism, drinking in stories of Cheliax’s history and glorious achievements. But she was also a sensitive soul, uncomfortable with the brutality of Cheliaxian society, though she believed her elders when they told it was necessary to maintain order and preserve Cheliax’s power and history. When she came of age, she enlisted as an officer in the Cheliaxian army and also got involved in politics, trying to promote reforms to make Cheliaxian society less brutal and more kind. For the latter, she was denounced by the priests of Asmodeus. Xenia’s parents—Jossen and Lynia Venn--learned from family connections that their daughter was to be arrested and arranged for her to be smuggled out of the country.

Xenia was free but her world was shattered. She was working as a wandering sell sword when she encountered some members of the Pathfinder Society who took her in. They shared with her an uncensored history of Cheliax. Xenia soon found herself aspiring to be like Janaenya, a human paladin of Sarenrae—but more drawn to the teachings of Droanan, a dwarven priest of Erastil. What she had learned of Cheliax’s history convinced Xenia that it was pride and a desire for glory and power that had led Cheliaxian leaders down the path to diabolism. Now she is a devotee of Erastil, with his emphasis on humility and the simple life. She is also an aspiring member of the Pathfinder Society, dedicated to opposing the tyranny and oppression she was told was necessary as a child. She has hopes of someday returning to Cheliax to open the eyes of people there and start a rebellion against the country’s diabolist regime, though she knows any such adventure is a long ways away.
