The loyal dog is an old friend to the hunters.  Zutchko approached the mighty hunter Votank once and said he'd rather be a loyal servant than food.  The two became brothers and dogs have helped the Votanki ever since.  There is a special service to Zutchko in mid-summer in which all Zarings participate, in addition to their ever-present dogs.

During the ceremony, the spirit of Zutchko appears and everyone can speak in the same language, human and dog alike, and they sing and dance around the fire for the entire night. 

Zarings treat their dogs as brothers at best and cousins at worst.  They use packs of hunting dogs to aid them in their day-to-day quest for food.  They also have specialized warhounds that are large and powerful enough to aid them in battle with other humans.
