Religions VS Cults

There are thousands of different religions and cults in the 'Verse. Some that came from Earth-That-Was, some that sprung up during the long voyage from Earth-That-Was, and some that came about after we began to colonize the new worlds. Even now, new ones are coming into existence. So what is the difference between a religion and a cult? That depends on who you ask but the main difference lies in which ones are recognized by the Alliance. Any group of a spiritual or religious type manner that is not recognized by the Alliance as an “official” religion is considered a cult. So in the end it boils down to whether or not you have the right paperwork and the Alliance seal of approval.
