Kolvir is a relic - he first rose to prominence in the service of an Overlord of a Netherworld that was destroyed long ago. He spent ages trapped in the ashes and rubble, and was dug out only relatively recently by agents of the Principality of Blackbutterfly who'd rediscovered his dead master's holdings. Kolvir expected to be interrogated for lost treasures and secret weaknesses to be exploited by his captors - he was shocked and confused when they sent him off as an attendant to the Princess Honeycomb instead. (Though after seeing her in action, he's beginning to guess why the older and more conservative members of her clan might demand she have a minder...)
